Leon Ravnikar is a Slovenian classical guitarist and one of the most promising young artists of his generation on the international guitar scene. Praised for his exceptional musicality, technical mastery, and intellectual depth, he is steadily building a distinguished career as a soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue.
My Story
Leon began studying guitar at the age of seven with prof. Denis Kokalj at the Škofja Loka Music School and continued his education at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet in the class of Eva Hren. Leon is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), having completed his Bachelor’s degree with the highest distinction under the guidance of guitarist and composer Nejc Kuhar.
Leon has received numerous awards at national and international competitions, including multiple First Prizes at TEMSIG, top prizes at competitions such as Forum Gitarre Wien, the Altamira Guitar Competition (Enrico Mercatali Prize), the Grand Prix at Baltic Guitar Days, the Alirio Díaz International Guitar Competition, and the Franz Cibulka International Guitar Competition in Graz. In 2023, he was awarded Third Prize at the mdw “Great Talent Award”, competing across all instrumental disciplines.
He performs regularly in renowned venues including the Slovenian Philharmonic, Cankarjev dom’s Gallus Hall, the Ljubljana Opera House, and the Musikverein in Vienna, and has appeared in concert halls across Europe. As an enthusiastic chamber musician, he is a member of Duo Chameleon with Polish guitarist Kamil Anioł, winners of the 33rd Iserlohn Guitar Festival.
Leon Ravnikar continues to refine his artistry through collaboration, international performances and masterclasses with leading guitarists such as Judicaël Perroy, Gabriel Bianco, Álvaro Pierri, Hubert Käppel, etc., while also sharing his knowledge through masterclasses at festivals and music institutions.
